The Former Utopia track here is not a simple song; it was created from concept to last solo, straight and non-stop in twenty cathartic hours, as undigested trauma was released and ‘forgiveness from eternity’ was bestowed upon the heavy-hearted former utopian. “A good place to begin.” reflects George, who decided to use the often dull device of a cover song as a transgressive means of dealing with a best friend’s murder. A pretty innocent romantic ditty from the 1920s thus transformed into a psychological exorcism. Influenced by the ‘life in reverse’/’back from the dead’ themes from JG Ballard’s ‘Mr F. is Mr F.’, Phillip K Dick’s ‘Counter Clock World’ and a film by Robin Campillo [‘Les Revenants’], George rebirths ‘Tiptoe Through The Tulips’ as a resurrection work, complete with cover art featuring George’ s own ‘Manor Park’ version of the English Artist Stanley Spencers’ ‘The Resurrection at Cookham’ (also on the artwork thanks to the Tate Britain) with George’s murdered friend arisen and commenting on the all new, gentrified East London.
